The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

Image
The Bodyguard Author: Katherine Center Rating: 5⭐ Genre: Romance (fake dating) Review: Faking dating books have always held a special place in my heart but oh my gosh, I loved this book so much. At the beginning of the book, Hannah is in a bad place after getting dumped and burying her mother all in the same day. The character development in this book is really beautifully written. I loved the banter between Jack and Hannah in this book SO much. It was great. Honestly, this book had everything you'd want in a romance: banter, thoughtful displays of love, cute descriptions, and great character development. I was giggling out loud as well as blushing on the spot while reading this one. I also loved that Hannah was the bodyguard and not the other way around, which is what I had originally thought. It was great and loved reading from her point of view. Overall, 5 stars and I was invested the entire time; I couldn't recommend this more! Synopsis: She's got his back. Hannah Bro...

Lunar Love by Lauren Kung Jessen

Lunar Love Author:  Lauren Kung Jessen Rating: 4⭐ Genre:  Romance Review: I really enjoyed this book for a variety of reasons. If you're looking for a quick and cute romance read, I'd highly recommend this; but, if you're looking for something that's a bit more unique and engaging, I'd choose a different read. I'm not saying that this book wasn't unique though; learning about the Chinese zodiac signs and culture was very interesting and new. I also loved the amount of character development that there was for the main character, Olivia. She learned a lot and grew in so many ways as a matchmaker learning about love for herself. There really wasn't anything wrong with this book, but there wasn't anything super special either. I finished it pretty quickly and it was just an easy read. Overall, I would recommend this book for a quick romance read (maybe in between some heavier books) but it wasn't as great as the potential held. Synopsis:  Always a ...

The Do-Over by Lynn Painter

The Do-Over Author: Lynn Painter Rating: 5⭐ Genre: Romance (YA "Groundhog Day" loop) Review: I loved this book. Now, I didn't know if I'd love it because of the Groundhog Day  repeating trope. I've read about 3 books that have been apart of this trope (not including this one) and every single one I didn't love. I think it was mostly because the repeating day lasted too long and it would be get really boring knowing everything coming next. But, this book hit different. I love all books by Lynn Painter. I rated Better Than The Movies  5 stars as well because it was just as amazing. I finished this book in 2 days and absolutely adored every moment. It was really short read, but it worked out perfectly for this book because the repeating time loop trope ended earlier than most other books I've read in similar tropes. After Em had a long day (DONC) getting to know Nick, I didn't want him to forget every moment. Instead, she went to February 15th! Also--I lo...

When in Rome by Sarah Adams

When in Rome Author: Sarah Adams Rating: 4.5 ⭐ Genre: Romance (small-town) Review: Sarah Adams has become one of my favorite authors. However, going with the idea that this book would be similar to The Cheat Sheet --which I rated 5 stars--was not the right way to go. I almost felt like this book was a little too fictional, but it was still good. This book was a modern retelling of Roman Holiday , starring Audrey Hepburn. I haven't seen the movie, so I really didn't know what to expect. Noah and Amelia's banter was so cute, and I adored them as a couple. Amelia is a lost pop star; she doesn't want to go back to reality so she escapes to Rome, Kentucky and stays there for awhile. I personally don't enjoy the pop star genre as much as others, so that didn't help. Noah and Amelia also gave off grumpy x sunshine at multiple points and it reminded me a bit of Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score. If you liked that book, you'd probably like this. Those were the o...

Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto

Dial A for Aunties Author: Jesse Q. Sutanto Rating:  5⭐ Genre: Fiction, Romance (second chance, friends to lovers) Review: This book has been on my TBR for quite some time now, but I recently picked it up from the library so I forced myself to read it. I've only heard great things about it, but when I read the synopsis, I wasn't that intrigued. To be honest, I went into this book not expecting much. But, oh my gosh, this book was amazing. I loved the banter and the flashbacks that Meddy had with Nathan back in school and it made the book so much better. I love having context to relationships--and Jesse definitely gave me that. Reading about Meddy's past and the "curse" allowed so much more understanding to this book. The aunties were so hilarious and added the perfect amount of comic relief when needed. The murder--which is spoiled to you the moment you open the book--is not what you would think at all. I went in thinking this book was going to be solely about Med...
